International News: Brazen Ibiza drug bust at Space

August 21st, 2008 by admin

An Irish woman is facing up to nine years in a Spanish jail after being caught carrying 100 pills into legendary Ibiza nightclub Space. The 23-year-old tourist reportedly astonished bouncers at the club by pulling the bag of pills out of her bra, when asked if she was carrying any drugs. “She’s obviously not the sharpest tool in the box,” a police source told the Irish Herald. “The girl claimed she did not know it was a serious crime to carry drugs in Ibiza.”

Pacha resident Erick Morillo, meanwhile, used his Pacha Magazine column to step up his tirade against the island’s after-hours party ban, warning that clubbers could soon be deterred from visiting Ibiza altogether. “Everything is so expensive: 50 euros to get into a club, 15 euros for a vodka and now you can’t even go and listen to music at Bora Bora during the day,” the multi-millionaire DJ complained.

Chicago Tribune writer Christine Spolar instead labeled the after-hours ban as a ?middle-age revelation; Ibiza can no longer can keep up 24-hour clubbing’ and interviewed an (anonymous) local councilor who defended the new 6am-6pm clubbing curfew. “We believe most people who live in Ibiza wanted this,” the official argued. “Maybe people who fly in for a party want this to go on for 24 hours, but we can’t live this way,” she added.
