International News: Czech to launch budget Full Moon parties

December 17th, 2008 by admin

Legendary Czech Republic festival/club promoter Ales Bleha is launching a series of ultra-cheap Full Moon’ parties next year, featuring headline acts including Scan X, Afrika Islam, Luke Slater and CJ Bolland. Ales, who founded Czech Republic’s best-known festival Summer Of Love, said he’ll be targeting party animals’ for the 2,000 capacity monthly events, for which ticket prices will start at just 4 euros each.

“The concept of the parties revolve around three factors: the Full Moon, cheap entry and well known artist names,” he explained. “At the moment there are lots of parties in Czech Republic with good names, but clubbers usually need to pay 20 or 30 euro to just get in. We’re offering tickets from four Euros, and also scrapping the free guest list: guests will have to pay two Euros, and we’ll donate that money to charity.

“The strategy for the DJs is to select one or two very well known world legendary DJs on main stage, good progressive international talent at second stage and a few good local Czech DJs as support,” he continued. “We want to have a full club with great atmosphere. And for me personally I want to go back to my roots and present parties for people where the entry fee isn’t an issue because it’s so low.”

Taking a break after Summer Of Love suffered from poor ticket sales caused by relentless rain in August, Ales said he analysed all aspects of his booking operations and concluded that ultra-high superstar DJ fees are no longer viable in today’s economic climate. “If we pay 15 000 Euro for a DJ fee, then of course we will never be able to pay our bills, but there reality is that there are scores of great DJs out there alongside the fucking expensive MTV-like DJ stars,” he said.

“I still remember those days at the beginning of the nineties when you could go to club and enjoy the night even if you didn’t have 200 Euros in your pocket. So I’m going in a different direction now in terms of the DJs I’m booking, I’m choosing electronic animals who feels the vibe still in heart, who don’t need €25,000 to come and make people happy – to play some fucking role of being some kind of God.”

Ales stressed that his Summer Of Love event will remain a different animal though pointed out that he expects the entire club scene to change irrevocably. “Why do you think I’m starting a party with 4 Euro entry fee only?” he laughed. “The good times full of easy money are gone: DJ fees and club fees will go down for sure, everywhere,” he predicted, before adding. “Though I think it is good, very, very good. Capitalism sometimes needs a kick up its ass. We’re all living too expensively, we’re destroying the world and being selfish, it’s time for redressing the balance.”
