International News: Luke Slater’s steps to heaven

May 22nd, 2008 by admin

British techno pioneer Luke Slate unveiled four new remixes of his 2006 single She Showed Me Heaven’ this week, including two dub style edits he’s done himself. “A lot of inspiration came from my reggae sets at Space Bass in London where I started mixing up dub reggae records with electronic minimalism,” he explained.

The remixes are coming out on Slater’s own label Mote-Evolver in June on double vinyl and digital, with downloading – including free downloads – something the label’s embraced and accepted, the website stresses. “You’ll find that all downloads from Mote-Evolver are not copy protected or have any kind of DRM technology. DRM and anti-piracy coding is a waste of time because we believe and know that this protection can easily be bypassed,” Mote-Evolver say on their site.

“The trust is that even though we know some people will distribute files over P2P sharing a majority of you will actually purchase and not share tracks. After all, why give away something special you found and paid for? Doing this only destroys the label and the musicians and thus kills small labels like us leaving only the majors in control. Please support us honestly,” they ask.
