Today would have been Elliott Smith’s thirty-eighth birthday. To honor the singer-songwriter, Kill Rock Stars is giving away downloads of “Angel in the Snow,” the first track from this year’s New Moon, which includes songs Smith recorded from 1994 to 1997.

We suggest checking out some old photos of Smith and remembering his many accomplishments. As of today, the investigation into his 2003 death remains open. Photographer/video director Autumn de Wilde’s Smith book (which includes a forward written by Beck and Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla) is due September 20.
