Thom Yorke Gets ‘Nude’
Last month, Radiohead stopped accepting fan-generated remixes of their song “Nude” at radioheadremix.com. Of the 2,254 submissions, the top 10 fan favorites are posted on the home page, but the most inventive tracks are buried deep in the site, from a classical-string-quartet version (number 57) to a horn-heavy reggae-dub experiment (771). Our favorite comes from Adrian Holovaty (40), who takes Thom Yorke’s haunted croon and adds jazzy guitar strumming for a cyborgian take on Gilberto Gil. The result is strangely beautiful — and something Radiohead will never do.
‘The Daily Show’ for Indie Rock
With dry humor and a goofy porkpie hat, British music reporter Russell Porter offers a refreshing alternative to ultraserious indie-rock sites. At the Porter Report, he cross-examines buzzworthy acts like the Futureheads and Young Knives about inane subjects — getting them to reveal far more personality than a Q&A about how they got started. Quizzing electro-rockers Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip, he asks which drugs they’d take with British poets: “Jellies with Shelley? Or ketamine with Betjeman?” Says Scroobius of getting high with Shelley, “It could get sexy. I’m swaying over in that direction now — you’re winning me over.”
Plan Your Night at the Clubs
There are hundreds of sites that post concert listings, but bandsintown.com offers the easiest way to find a show that’s best suited to your budget and schedule. Choose tour dates, distance from home, ticket price and type of artist, from indie acts to arena bands, and the site will plan your nights out.
