Tardy Winehouse Wins a Big One (E! Online)

May 24th, 2008 by admin

The trouble-plagued songbird received Britain's prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting award in London Thursday, but sadly failed to show up in time to accept it.

Winehouse, per her rep, arrived at the ceremony "literally as the award was being given to her dad," who luckily did have the foresight to turn up to the show at the appointed hour.

"Unfortunately, Amy couldn't make it, but she is getting better and sends you all her love," Mitch Winehouse said on behalf of his daughter, who took home the nod for Best Song for her hit "Love Is a Losing Game."

Winehouse had three nominations in all going into the show, which honors British music publishers, songwriters and composers, including a dueling Best Song nomination for "You Know I'm No Good" and a British Song nomination for "Rehab."

After missing out on her trophy, the singer, who donned a decorative heart in her trademark beehive emblazoned with the name of her incarcerated beloved, Blake, told BBC Radio's 6 she nevertheless "always really liked" attending the awards.

She also talked shop, saying she's in the process of recording a new album she promises will be "very atmospheric and very lovelorn" and "pretty much the same" as Back to Black.

And if the sequel is as good, maybe she can manage to actually collect her award in person at next year's ceremony.
